Tempe, AZ – Sun Devil offensive lineman Christian Westerman quietly goes about his business every day.
Putting in the same amount of time and hard work as his teammates, he patiently waits his turn to play at ASU.
He will finally get his chance during the Holiday Bowl against Texas Tech on December 30th.
A local 5-star recruit, Christian Westerman transferred to ASU to be closer to family and contribute to the hometown Sun Devils. He was also attracted to the new culture that Todd Graham is building in Tempe and saw a bright future for the program.
Although ineligible to play during the regular season, he’s not surprised at the team’s success this year.
“I knew this team had the talent, it was just a matter of putting everything together,” Westerman said. “One of the main reasons behind our success has been our strength and conditioning. Guys have gotten stronger and faster as the year has progressed. We also have great leaders on the team and a lot of players have stepped up this season.”
Westerman is a proud Sun Devil who is also hyper-competitive, and he is doing whatever he can at practice to make himself and the players around him better.
“I’m just trying to do whatever I can to help. Right now, I’m on the scout team every week, so I’m able to do my part and get the team prepared.”
There is no doubt that having a stud offensive lineman on the scout team like Christian Westerman has certainly made Will Sutton, Carl Bradford and Jaxon Hood better each week as they prepare for their next opponent.
Looking ahead to next season, the Sun Devils will lose senior offensive linemen, Evan Finkenberg and Kody Koebensky. Westerman is ready, willing and able to step in and fill the gap.
When asked what he will bring to the table, he responded, “The number one thing is aggressiveness. I like to be very physical and knock my guy off the line and take him down. I look forward to being able to contribute on game day.”
Keep a close eye on Christian Westerman during the Holiday Bowl. With the good news that he is eligible to play, it will be fun to watch him unleash a season of anticipation on the Red Radiers.
